KHADI

Khadi/Khaddar is a term for handspun and hand-woven cloth from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The cloth is usually woven from cotton and may also include silk, or wool, which are all spun into yarn on a spinning wheel called a charkha. It is a versatile and unique fabric that remains cool in summer and warm in winter. In order to improve the look, Khadi is sometimes starched to give it a stiffer feel. For us Indians.khadi is not merely cloth but an important symbol of our freedom struggle. The Khadi movement propagated by Gandhi is about being self reliant and producing your own fabric as opposed to buying high priced British goods and clothes. Thus,is became an icon of the Swadeshi movement Today, too khadi is a widely accepted fabric in high fashion.
